Pristina, Kosovo, 4 March 2008 - The Constitutional Commission Reviews the Publics Comments on the Draft Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo
The Constitutional Commission of the Republic of Kosovo is pleased to announce the completion of the public participation phase in the constitution drafting process. During the second phase, members of the public had the opportunity to discuss, debate and comment on the Draft Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo through a series of events organized by the Commission throughout Kosovo. Additionally, the Commission was pleased to support and participate in a number of debates and discussions organized by interested civil society organizations, academic institutions, trade and professional groups, local and national media, and other institutions, formal and informal, on the content of the Draft Constitution.
The Draft Constitution has been widely distributed throughout Kosovo, and members of the public were able to obtain copies of the Draft Constitution from distribution points in municipal government buildings, schools, universities, from interested NGOs, print media, and through the official web site of the Commission www.kushtetutakosoves.info.
The Draft was published in Albanian, Serbian, Bosnian, Turkish, Roma and English languages. Additionally, the draft constitution was published in the Braille alphabet in Albanian and Serbian, and was distributed to its members by the Association of the Blind.
The Commission carefully collected comments presented by citizens in town hall meetings and round table discussions with specialized and interest groups organized throughout Kosovo, as well as comments submitted to the Commission through the website, through letters sent to the Secretariat of the Commission, as well as through media until midnight of March 2, 2008.
The Commission appreciates the contribution of the public in drafting the Constitution of Kosovo, and expresses its commitment to take into consideration every comment submitted by citizens.
The Commission has already begun the important process of reviewing the publics comments on the Draft Constitution and will be editing the Draft to reflect accepted changes.

About the Constitutional Commission:
The Constitutional Commission charged with compiling the first draft of the Constitution of Kosovo was established by the President of Kosovo in accordance with the recommendations of UN Special Envoy Ahtisaari's Report on the Future Status of Kosovo submitted to the UN General Secretary. The Commission reflects the diversity of Kosovo and is responsible for drafting a Constitution that represents the best interests of all people of Kosovo.
