Pristina, Kosovo, 7 April 2008 - The Constitutional Commission submits the Proposed Constitution to the President of the Republic of Kosovo
The Constitutional Commission of the Republic of Kosovo has formally approved and signed the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo today at 13:00 at the National Library. In the signing ceremony, the Commission presented the proposed Constitution to Mr. Fatmir Sejdiu, the President of the Republic of Kosovo. The President is to submit the proposed Constitution to the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo. The formal adoption of the Constitution by the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo is expected soon.
The Constitutional Commission has worked for more than a year in preparing a Constitution for Kosovo. During this process, the Commission has consulted numerous Constitutions of democratic countries and has discussed with many local and international experts. The Constitutional Commission has also organized a two phase public information process, with the aim to involve the public in the constitution making process.
All comments made by the public and interested organizations through public debates, roundtable discussions, email messages, mail and through website mechanisms had been organized by the Secretariat of the Constitutional Commission and were reviewed by the working groups of the Constitutional Commission. Approximately 35 % of the comments submitted by the public and various organizations are fully or partially incorporated in the Constitution as formally approved by the Constitutional Commission.

About the Constitutional Commission:
The Constitutional Commission charged with drafting the Constitution of Kosovo was established by the President of Kosovo in accordance with the recommendations of UN Special Envoy Ahtisaari's Report on the Future Status of Kosovo submitted to the UN General Secretary. The Commission reflects the diversity of Kosovo and is responsible for drafting a Constitution that represents the best interests of all people of Kosovo.
